During Capcom’s Megaman 30th anniversary Twitch livestream (which I sadly had to miss), it was announced that we will be getting the 11th volume of the traditional MegaMan series in late 2018.
Thoughts on the trailer
As much as I hate to say it, the 8 bit graphics of the “classic” line of Megman games was becoming tiresome. While I think I would have preferred 16 bit graphics with a 7-ish aesthetic, the hand drawn art looks pretty good. It honestly reminds me of the 2.5D style used for Megaman: Powered Up on the PSP (just a little less adorable!)
The level designs do look a little plain based off the snippets of gameplay shown, but the game is still obviously under development so I guess it’s to be expected. There is an interesting segment around the 0:33 mark, though.
This looks like a throwback to the Guts Man stage from the very first Mega Man game on the NES. This leads me to believe that Capcom may be taking a Sonic Mania type approach with the game’s stages, mashing up old levels with new ones. We’ll just have to wait and see, though!
Megaman 11 is set to be released across all platforms (including the Nintendo Switch) in late 2018. Stay tuned for more information!
